New Beginnings in Dumfries: River of Life Church Takes Over St Mary's Greyfriars'
Dumfries is buzzing with the news that the River of Life Church has officially taken over the beloved St Mary's Greyfriars' Church and its hall. It's a bittersweet moment as the existing congregation held its final service last Sunday, but there's an undeniable sense of excitement as the River of Life prepares to breathe new life into these historic spaces.
A Passing of the Baton
The handover ceremony was a beautiful display of unity and collaboration. The outgoing session clerk of St Mary’s Greyfriars’, Anne Mackie, expressed her joy that the church will continue to serve its purpose of Christian worship. She acknowledged the difficult decisions and the congregation’s unwavering support through the years, and found solace in the fact that River of Life will continue their mission in the building.
River of Life's Vision
Pastor Mark Smith of the River of Life Church is brimming with enthusiasm about the future. He expressed deep gratitude to the St Mary’s Greyfriars’ congregation for their warmth and generosity, especially during the 20 months when River of Life was using their hall for Sunday services. The move to the church and hall comes at a perfect time as their congregation has been steadily growing.
Pastor Smith emphasized that while their services might have a different style, the core message remains the same - the good news of Jesus Christ. They're eager to start using the church sanctuary for their 11am Sunday services, while the hall will continue to host their lively children's activities.
