The highly anticipated Japanese Summer Festival, organized in partnership with JET AA Scotland, promises a delightful immersion into the rich tapestry of Japanese traditions, arts, and entertainment.

A Collaborative Celebration of Japanese Culture

This extraordinary event, made possible through the collaborative efforts of JETAA Scotland and Shambellie House, enjoys the esteemed support of The Consulate General of Japan in Edinburgh, Japan Society of Scotland, and JLGC London. The festival is a testament to the shared enthusiasm for cultural exchange and the strong historical and economic ties that bind Scotland and Japan.

Zeljka Letica, Scotland Chapter Chair of the JET Programme Alumni Association UK, expressed her excitement about the festival: "We at JETAA Scotland are thrilled to have the opportunity to cooperate with Shambellie House and all the festival participants and volunteers. We hope this will lay the foundations for future Japanese festivals in Dumfries and Galloway. This is a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange and to remember that both Scottish and Japanese culture have a lot to offer each other.”  

An Invitation to Immerse in Japanese Traditions

The Trustees of Shambellie House are honored to host this unique celebration. They extend a warm invitation to families from Dumfries and beyond to partake in the festivities and experience the diverse facets of Japanese culture.

Visitors can look forward to captivating demonstrations of archery, karate, poetry, singing, and dancing, as well as the chance to try on traditional yukata garments. The festival will also showcase a stunning exhibition of photography, paintings, quilts, and kimonos, offering a glimpse into the artistic expressions of Japan.

And that's not all! The Clan Sumo Scotland will be present, adding a touch of excitement and athleticism to the event. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the power and grace of sumo wrestling firsthand.

Local businesses are also playing a crucial role in making this festival a success. Mylar, a local company, is generously sponsoring the event. DG Unlimited is providing valuable event advice and support to the Trust, further strengthening the sense of community involvement.

To satisfy hungry appetites, Sushi City will be on hand, offering a taste of authentic Japanese cuisine. Shambellie House volunteers will also be serving tea, coffee, and snacks, ensuring a delightful culinary experience for all.
