Radio has always been a passion of Lee's, since his youngest years when he made his own radio shows on a cassette recorder. As he grew up he became more interested in the broadcast presentation and business aspects of the industry.
He first became involved in radio in 2010 as a volunteer with the Dumfries based community radio station Alive 107.3, starting off in a co-host & production role before moving on to anchor the re-launched Saturday Sports show 'Alive & Kicking' as well as hosting the Sunday Breakfast show.
In 2011 he launched the stations first dedicated current events show 'Lee Medd LIVE' during which time he interviewed the then first Minister Alec Salmond MSP, David Mundell MP and then Prime Minister David Cameron. Also hosting special election coverage of the 2015, 2017, 2019 General Elections, the Scottish Elections in 2011, 2016 and 2021 and the 2015 Independence Referendum as well as the 2016 and 2020 US election.
He hosted the breakfast show on Alive 107.3, Medd in the Morning - Monday to Thursday between 7-9am between May 2013 - May 2018 and again from December 2019 - now; in addition to co-hosting and producing the weekly 'Meddisms' programme alongside Andrea Medd.
Between June 2016 Lee was heard every weekend on Dumfries & Galloway's WestSound, hosting Saturday's Greatest Hits, Gossip & Goals between 3-7pm and 12-4pm with Sunday's Greatest Hits as well as deputising on both breakfast and home run shows.
Lee Medd has been a dynamic presence in various events beyond his radio career. His involvement extends to the vibrant cultural scene of Dumfries & Galloway, where he has hosts a number of high profile festivals and community events. Notably, Lee has hosted the Doonhame Festival since it launched, a celebration of music that brings together local, national and international talent. He has also been a part of the Big Burns Supper, an annual event that honors Scotland's national poet, Robert Burns, through music, performance, and art. Lee produced and co-hosted alongside Andrea Thompson a sries of live radio and streming events for the world's biggest Burns night celebration. Additionally, Lee's contributions to the Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival showcases his commitment to promoting the arts in the region. His efforts in these events highlight his versatility and his ability to connect with the community on multiple levels. Moreover, Lee's recognition as the VisitScotland Tourism & Hospitality Hero at the 2022 Thistle Awards underscores his impact on the tourism and hospitality sectors, further solidifying his reputation as a multifaceted professional dedicated to enriching the cultural landscape of Scotland.
